Is it really cheaper
I am currently stashing away from my LO's expected in April, so I already understand the thrill of receiving a new diaper in the mail, but I know what they cost and have already invested more in my stash than I will be spending on most of the other baby gear combined (which is why I started stashing early). at approximately $14$23 per diaper, are we really saving that much money since it appears that CD purchases don't stop once our stash is full, moncler homme, we continue to buy one here and two there every other week. Also, let me add, that I am already resigning myself to the AIO's, I know I could have just invested in prefolds and gotten off a lot cheaper, but I love the look and ease of the AIO's. So, I'm not exactly trying to be cheap about this, which is my own fault, but I just see a lot of people excited about fluffy mail and just wonder, how much money are we really saving? Please note I am not criticizing, but I just wanted to assess this for moment.
I think cloth diapering can be as cheap (prefolds or flats and covers) or expensive (bamboo and wool) as you want it to be
Although I do want to add that cloth diapering usually comes with some trial and error, but since they have a good resale value it's not such a big deal. I tell everyone new to cloth diapering to never buy a million of one type of diaper. They may not work for you, and they may not fit your LO well. As long as you keep your costs of CD under that, you're probably saving money. There're breakdowns on the web listing how much money (we're talking cents here) to include for the cost of washing CDs if you want to estimate that into your cost.
But then consider as well, that once the initial purchase is complete you can use them again for another child, or resell. Can't EVER resell sposies once they've been used :)
For me, I honestly think it would be cheaper to use disposables if I were just having one baby. I am a great bargain hunter and think the estimates for how much people spend on disposables are ridiculous (including wipes ointment, here). Even with buying Pampers (I believe the most expensive brand?) I can spend less than $50/month. And that's not with compromising by changing baby less often! That's estimating approx 10 dipes/day.
Like you, I have decided on a mostly AIO/AI2 stash and have spent close to $500 already (12 BG Organics, 10 Rumparooz, 1 NB Pooligan, 1 Goodmama fitted and 3 Goodmama Ones). That doesn't include the everyother day washing I'll have to do (maybe it's just where I'm at, but I prepped last month and my utilities went up about $50, not the $5 somebody quoted meand I just did 3 hot washes and 6 cold rinses + 2 90min drying cycles so the prepping isn't done for my BG Organics). I'm planning to save by either selling them after baby is potty trained, or by using them for future children (planning on at least 2 more). If you have any concerns about your own health or the health of your child, you should always consult with a physician or other healthcare professional.
