A million dollars worth of counterfeit handbags, watches and other merchandise was confiscated Friday and a vendor at the Flamingo Island Flea Market in Bonita Springs was arrested.
The owner of Lee's Watches and Handbags, Jong Lee, 57, of 1891 NW 88th Way, Coral Springs, is facing eight thirddegree felony counts of selling counterfeit goods. Lee County Sheriff's Office detectives say he sold some of the knockoff items to them during two "buy operations" Friday morning at the flea market.

"The van got so packed that we had to start using patrol cars to transport the items back to the Sheriff's Office for processing," Sands said. "I'd say that about 50 percent of the merchandise in his store was counterfeit."
Sands said the Sheriff's Office was tipped off to Lee's alleged illicit activities in booth "red 152" at the flea market, located at the 11902 Bonita Beach Road SE, about two weeks ago by the Florida AntiCounterfeit Coalition, a private investigative firm hired by big companies to stem the tide of illegal counterfeit sales.
"They sent him ceaseanddesist papers months ago and gave him the opportunity to stop, but he chose not to, so that's when we came in," Sands said.
Flamingo Island managerment couldn't be reached for comment. Vendors rent booths from Flamingo Island and are responsible for their own business license. Lee's business license has been active since 1992.

"We questioned him, but he wouldn't give up his source," Schall said.
